On August 21, 2024, the Nepal Disabled Women Association (NDWA) held a workshop in Kathmandu focused on preventing and responding to gender-based violence (GBV) against women and girls with disabilities in an inclusive way. This event was organized in collaboration with CBM Global Nepal. 39 participants including leaders and representatives from OPDs and other people with disabilities.
During the workshop, participants discussed the widespread violence faced by women with disabilities in the society. They pointed out that due to a lack of evidence, many of these women are unable to seek justice, and some may not even realize they are experiencing violence.

A participant from Bhaktapur shared a distressing account of a 21-year-old woman with an intellectual disability who was exploited by men in her neighborhood, with efforts being made to shield the perpetrators rather than support the victim. Additionally, it was noted that women with hearing impairments often struggle to obtain justice due to communication barriers.
Through group discussions, participants concluded that government services aimed at addressing gender-based violence are not accessible or sensitive to the needs of people with disabilities. Therefore, they emphasized the importance of all Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) collaborating to tackle these issues.

Tika Dahal, the president of NDWA, provided information about the legal measures in place to address gender-based violence, while Meena Poudel, the vice-president, presented findings from a study conducted by NDWA. The workshop was facilitated by Dev Kumari Parajuli, the General Secretary of the NDWA.
