Kathmandu, September 5, 2025 — The Nepal Disabled Women Association (NDWA) has successfully concluded the first phase of its school-level awareness sessions on disability and gender-based violence (GBV) in Budhanilkantha, Tarkeshwar, and Tokha municipalities.
Awareness sessions were conducted in total of five schools in this phase: two each from Budhanilkantha and Tarkeshwar, and one from Tokha. The program reached 246 students (Male 108, Female: 138), raising awareness about disability and gender-based violence..

The sessions were facilitated by trained school nurses using engaging PowerPoint presentations. NDWA provided comprehensive training to facilitators, focusing on content delivery, interactive methods, and student engagement strategies.
Topics covered included:
- Understanding disability and types of disabilities
- Distinguishing between sex and gender
- Gender-based violence and its various forms
- Information on local GBV service providers
- Students’ roles in promoting equality and safety in schools
To measure the effectiveness of the sessions, pre- and post-assessments were conducted. The results demonstrated a noticeable increase in students’ knowledge and awareness after the sessions.

School representatives expressed their appreciation toward NDWA and the facilitators for organizing such impactful and informative sessions.
This initiative marks a significant step in building inclusive and safe school environments. NDWA plans to expand the program to additional schools in the next phases.
