Nepal Disabled Women Association (NDWA) launched a new project aimed at combating sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Tarkeshower Municipality.
The kick-off meeting, held at the municipality’s office, was attended by 45 participants, including Mayor Krishnahari Maharjan, Deputy Mayor Sirjana Burlakoti, Ward Chairpersons, the Chief Administrative Officer, and various municipal officials and members of the Disability Coordination Committee (DCC). NDWA officials, employees, and OPD members of Tarkeshower Municipality were also present.
Mayor Maharjan expressed his optimism that the project will significantly improve the lives of the target group and marginalized communities. He emphasized the importance of coordination with municipal branches and pledged full support for the initiative.
Deputy Mayor Burlakoti highlighted the municipality’s efforts to distribute identity cards to persons with disabilities, noting that those with severe disabilities who hold a blue card will receive additional allowances. She expressed strong support for the project, noting its potential to aid women with disabilities in accessing justice and addressing gender-based violence.
Project Coordinator Ayushka Shrestha provided a detailed overview of the project’s activities and programs, while President Tika Dahal outlined its objectives.
The NDWA project, set to run over the next four years in collaboration with CBM Global, aims to enhance access to justice for women with disabilities affected by gender-based violence.
