The final report-sharing event on the Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Act 2018, reviewed from the perspective of women with disabilities, was held on July 26, 2024. The event saw the participation of 38 attendees, including MPs, representatives from UNDP, UNICEF, RHRWG, OPDs, relevant stakeholders, sign language interpreters, consultants, NDWA board members, and staff, with a notable gender distribution of 11 males and 27 females.
Consultant Manish Prasai presented the final report, which detailed a comprehensive review of the Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights Act 2018. This review incorporated feedback gathered through phase-by-phase consultations with parliamentarians, legal practitioners, and rights activists, focusing particularly on the accessibility of services for women with disabilities.
During the program, Bina Jaisawal, MP and member of the Committee on Education, Health, and Information Technology, expressed her commitment to discuss the report’s findings with her committee. Her involvement signals a promising step towards integrating the recommendations from the review into legislative discussions and potentially advancing improvements in safe motherhood and reproductive health services for women with disabilities.
